Do you cover your mouth when you laugh or hide your smile when someone takes a picture? Many people feel self-conscious about their dental imperfections. But do you know that with cosmetic dentistry you can finally obtain the beautiful smile you deserve? In today’s blog, your Houston dentist, Dr. Deborah Gennero explains how cosmetic dentistry can help rejuvenate your smile.

Cosmetic Dentistry

The first step towards a stunning smile involves a consultation with Dr. Gennero. She will perform a thorough oral examination and sit down with you to discuss your smile goals. Dr. Gennero can then decide which of our cosmetic dental procedures will best address your smile needs. Dr. Gennero believes in providing the state-of-the-art dental procedures that reflect your unique personality and facial features.

Restoring Your Smile

Dr. Gennero provides a wide array of cosmetic procedures to help transform smiles. Our cosmetic techniques include:

  • Teeth Whitening: Dr. Gennero provides a convenient teeth whitening system you can use from the comfort of your own home. Dr. Gennero will first take an impression of your teeth. The impression will be used to create a custom-made whitening tray. She will then prescribe a special bleaching gel. Simply wear the gel-filled tray daily for the time recommended by Dr. Gennero. Soon, you will see dramatic results.
  • Porcelain Veneers: With porcelain veneers, Dr. Gennero places thin shells of dental porcelain on a patient’s front teeth. Porcelain veneers are durable and stain resistant. Veneers help correct the appearance of misalignment, mask teeth stains, repair cracked or chipped teeth, and close gaps between teeth.
  • Dental Bonding: Using a special composite resin, Dr. Gennero can reshape and repair damaged or malformed teeth. The bonding material can even be shaded to blend seamlessly with your smile.
  • Dental Contouring: Dr. Gennero can alter the surface of the teeth, reshaping teeth that have been damaged.

JewelOnTeeth-300x200For most of us, having a smile that meets the status quo is desirable. There are a select few that choose to express themselves through their drastic changes in their appearance. An example of this would be die-hard vampire fanatics that have their teeth reshaped to appear as fangs. Dr. Matthew Messina, advisor to the American Dental Association (ADA) worries that filing teeth is likely to weaken tooth enamel and tooth structure, leading to serious oral health issues. Your Katy dentist, Dr. Deborah Gennero, discusses some other extreme dental fads that could have dire consequences on the future of your smile.

Adorning Teeth with Diamonds

Temporary jewelry on teeth is a growing trend that sounds like a fairly harmless idea. There are some dentists that keep FDA-approved glue in the office to provide patients with requested jewel adhesion. There are also do-it-yourself kits available on the market. Unfortunately, either can lead to a host of tooth damage, according to the ADA. Tooth jewelry has the potential to trap bacteria, food and saliva, which will result in plaque and tartar buildup. This presents a great likelihood that tooth decay will develop, rotting the very teeth that you are trying to beautify, without you even realizing it. (more…)

ManSmiling-300x200An online poll administered by the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) to general dentists, found that women are more likely to stick to their regular checkup schedule than their male counterparts. The number of men going to the dentist is on the rise, however, but the motivation behind these dental visits is not overall health. Dr. Deborah Gennero, your Houston dentist, explains how the quest for a better looking smile is behind the surge of male patients in dentist offices.

Men Tend to Avoid the Dentist

Forty-five percent of the dentists questioned believed that their male patients did not see a need to go to the dentist. Embarrassment, lack of time, and not wanting to bother finding a new dentist were also cited as explanations for fewer male patients.

Finding the Edge to Get the Job

AGD spokesperson, Dr. J.Nick Russo, Sr., stated that trends are changing in his personal practice, as men vie for better jobs and promotions. In the past, most men stayed with only one or two companies during their entire career. These days, lay-offs and company closings mean that “middle-aged men are competing for jobs with younger men, making appearance a heightened factor in their lives,” says Dr. Russo. Keeping up with the competition has many men seeking cosmetic procedures like veneers, bonding, and bleaching, to improve their appearance and help with confidence in their professional pursuits. InvisilignWhen it comes to personal and professional success, it’s undeniable that a great smile will boost your confidence and your connections. Our Greater Houston patients have found Invisalign does both while straightening their smile discretely and effectively. In this blog, our Houston cosmetic dentist will explain why Invisalign is one of our most popular dentistry procedures.

Discrete, Clear Braces in Houston

Remember when straightening crooked teeth meant wearing embarrassing metal brackets for a couple of years? Those days are history with Invisalign clear braces on the scene. Our Houston dentist, Dr. Gennero offers orthodontic treatment that meets your needs for straighter teeth and image preservation. Invisalign clear braces are a great choice for teenagers and adults who want to avoid the stigma that comes along with traditional braces. The Houston professional can now straighten his or her teeth without worrying about orthodontics negatively affecting their image.

Convenience with Orthodontic Treatment

These clear aligners are beneficial in more ways than one. That same Houston professional can spend more time making money at the office, or spending time with his or her family, instead of making multiple trips to the dentist’s office. Invisalign is convenient because our Houston dentist can give you aligners to match your treatment plan up to four to six weeks into your treatment. You just change out your aligners every couple of weeks and come in for occasional checkups on your progress.

Invisalign and Your Lifestyle

Invisalign is an effective orthodontic treatment that keeps your lifestyle in mind. For even more convenience, Invisalign clear braces are removable. You can take out your aligners for eating and brushing your teeth. This means less time in the bathroom removing dinner form your braces, and more time enjoying dinner conversation.
