So What—It’s Only One Tooth!

Many patients do not understand why dentists are so adamant that a missing tooth, a decayed tooth or a loose tooth, yes, even just one, needs to be repaired or replaced to its initial shape and function. It’s reasonable that patients wonder why it is so important to replace just one tooth.

The reason is that that one tooth missing will allow for a domino effect. When a tooth is lost, the teeth immediately surrounding that tooth will tip, turn, twist and slide out of place, drifting into the hole left by the lost tooth.

The tooth, or in some cases, teeth, below or above the missing tooth will erupt up or down into the opposing open space.

The teeth that shift will be out of position. They will be more difficult to property clean and maintain. And, the affected, out-of-position teeth will be misaligned in the bite. Unwelcome stresses and strains will be created on the shifted teeth.

The shift in the adjacent and opposing teeth will eventually lead to further tooth loss. Dentists see this again and again in case after case where patients do not replace that single missing tooth.

If you would like to keep your teeth for the rest of your life and you have lost or about to lose a permanent adult tooth, then please call and schedule a consultation with our team to find out how we can help you replace that missing tooth or missing teeth. Call us today!

Many of us are not blessed with a naturally well aligned smile. You may have gaps, overlaps, twists, or otherwise crooked teeth which bother you when you look in the mirror or see pictures. Do you dream of a straighter smile? You may have already looked into a clear braces (such as Invisalign). There is a new orthodontics system available from Houston, TX, Dr. Deborah Gennero called Cfast. Just what sets Cfast apart from other orthodontic systems? Think fast.

The Social Six

One of the biggest drags about traditional orthodontics is the amount of time it takes from the moment the braces are firmly placed on your teeth to the end of the treatment. Cfast stands for Cosmetically Focused Adult Straight Teeth and it is the perfect alternative for adult patients looking to straighten their most visible teeth without a need for bite alignment. Cfast only focuses on correcting what are known as the “social six” teeth. These are the pearly whites which show when you flash your grin at others. They are the teeth that make impressions and represent the way you look when you smile.

How Does Cfast Work?

Cfast utilizes clear brackets and white wires which are affixed to the surfaces of your teeth to blend in with and appear nearly invisible. Gentle force moves your teeth into proper position comfortably. This alone is one of the biggest draws of Cfast as a new orthodontic option. Traditional braces often come at the price of pain, discomfort, and embarrassment. Most Cfast patients only need to wear the system for 4-6 months. If you have a big event coming up such as a reunion, wedding, or family reunion, you could feasibly have your teeth straightened before you go, provided you time the treatment correctly.

While Cfast can straighten your front teeth in record time, it is not appropriate for all patients. Talk to Dr. Deborah Gennero about your interest in Cfast and she can determine whether you make a good candidate. Should you need more comprehensive orthodontic treatment, Invisalign clear aligners might work for you.

Five Foods to AvoidTeeth whitening is one of the most popular cosmetic dental procedures that Houston cosmetic dentist Dr. Deborah Gennerro performs on her patients. Of course, teeth can become yellow and dull thanks to years of smoking and the natural aging process, but certain foods and drinks directly and quickly contribute to a lackluster smile. Dr. Gennero wants to discuss the foods and drinks you should avoid to keep your smile brighter and whiter.

Five Teeth Staining Foods

1. Coffee and tea: Yes they may give you the caffeine charge you are searching for in the morning (or afternoon) but at what cost? These brown liquids will stain your teeth if you drink them daily. If you can’t live without your daily jolt from coffee or tea, consider drinking them through a straw or at least rinsing your mouth with water after drinking them.

2. Soda: If you aren’t an all-day coffee drinker, you may very well be a ‘round the clock soda sipper. Most sodas are dark or bright in color and also have acid which is unhealthy for your tooth enamel. When acid demineralizes enamel, stains will occur much more easily. (more…)

Houston, TX Dentist Suggest Five Ways to Get Happy

Which comes first: the smile, or the feeling of happiness? Many people believe that a smile is a result of feeling happy, when in fact, the act of smiling can actually bring about happiness. A research study in England found that smiling produces endorphins that would be similar to winning a large sum of money. If you are feeling blue this fall, your Houston, TX dentist, Dr. Deborah Gennero, offers you five suggestions of activities that should make you feel like smiling more.

Five Ways to Feel Happy

  1. Keep a journal – You’re reading a blog right now, but you can write one, too. Having an outlet to write your thoughts and share them with the masses through the internet can bring about happiness. When you receive positive and affirming comments on your blog, you’re likely to feel even happier.
  2. Make sure you’re getting vitamin D – Serotonin is a hormone that makes you feel good, but when you don’t get enough sun, your levels can be low, and bring on a feeling of sadness. Ever hear of the winter blues? People that live in parts of the world that don’t see a lot of sunshine in colder months should be sure to take a daily vitamin D supplement to keep that smile on their faces.
  3. Schedule a dentist appointment – Have you ever walked out of the dentist’s office feeling like a new person? Other doctor’s appointments can have the same affect. Whether you’re due for a checkup, a dermatology procedure you’ve been putting off, or a physical with your general physician, overall health maintenance and preventive measures can put a happy spring in your step.
  4. Have a dance party – Think you’d feel foolish if you got caught dancing around your living room? Well, that might be, but according to Alice Domar, PhD, director of the Domar Center for Mind/Body Health in Waltham, Massachusetts, music activates pleasure centers in your brain, and movement releases mood elevating endorphins.
  5. Just go for it and fix your smile – If issues with your teeth make you feel embarrassed to smile, and you’ve always wanted to opt for cosmetic dentistry, maybe it’s time to make that appointment. A cosmetic dentist has the ability to do a complete smile makeover, using procedures like dental bonding, porcelain veneers, dental implants, teeth whitening, and tooth colored fillings and crowns to create a look you’ll want to grin about.
